A comprehensive programme combining step-by-step venepuncture with PRP and PRF preparation in one integrated workflow. This training turns blood collection into a confident clinical skill and removes barriers to effective autologous practice.

The course combines in-depth theoretical education with supervised practical training, ensuring participants gain both scientific understanding and real-world clinical confidence. Training groups are intentionally kept small (maximum 4–6 participants) to allow individual guidance, close supervision, and the highest quality learning experience.

The trainings are led by Paola Lamartine, highly skilled NMC Registered Aesthetic Nurse with a deep understanding of anatomy and precision techniques.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this training, delegates will be able to:

  • Explain venous anatomy and physiology relevant to safe venepuncture for PRP/PRF procedures.
  • Apply aseptic technique and infection-control principles following current UK guidelines.
  • Select and prepare appropriate venepuncture equipment and consumables, ensuring correct tube handling and labelling.
  • Perform safe and competent venepuncture using butterfly or vacutainer systems, including correct angle, depth, and order of draw.
  • Identify, prevent, and manage common complications such as haematoma, vasovagal episodes, poor blood flow, or nerve irritation.
  • Demonstrate safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste in accordance with COSHH and Sharps Regulations.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain professional standards, including informed consent, accurate documentation, and adherence to legal responsibilities.
  • Reflect on personal performance and demonstrate competency through supervised hands-on practice.

Module 1 – Introduction, Scope & Professional Practice

This module introduces venepuncture within aesthetic medicine and clarifies its distinction from phlebotomy. Learners will understand professional accountability, scope of practice, consent, documentation, and the importance of CPD. Venepuncture in aesthetics is performed solely for autologous therapeutic use and not for diagnostic blood sampling.

Learning Focus:
To ensure learners understand the professional, ethical, and legal responsibilities associated with venepuncture in aesthetic practice.

Module 2 – Anatomy & Physiology for Venepuncture

This module covers the structure and function of the venous system. Key veins of the antecubital fossa (median cubital, cephalic, basilic) are explored. Learners will differentiate veins from arteries and understand nerve proximity to minimise injury.

Learning Focus:
To enable learners to safely identify appropriate venous access points and reduce anatomical risk.

Module 3 – Health, Safety & Infection Control

This module focuses on infection prevention and control. Topics include standard precautions, hand hygiene, PPE, skin antisepsis, bloodborne pathogens, needle components, needlestick injury management, cleaning of reusable equipment, and sharps disposal.

Learning Focus:
To ensure safe practice, minimise infection risk, and protect both practitioner and client.

Module 4 – Equipment & Clinical Preparation

This module introduces venepuncture equipment used in aesthetic practice. Learners will understand the use of needles, butterfly systems, vacutainers, tourniquets, PRP/PRF tubes, and correct preparation of a clean clinical field.

Learning Focus:
To ensure correct equipment selection and safe clinical setup prior to venepuncture.

Module 5 – Venepuncture Technique & Blood Processing

This module provides a step-by-step venepuncture technique. Learners will cover vein selection, tourniquet application, palpation, needle insertion, blood collection, haemostasis, and post-procedure care. Centrifugation principles and anticoagulant vs non-anticoagulant protocols for PRP and PRF are explained.

Venepuncture is performed strictly within the practitioner’s scope of practice and in accordance with manufacturer protocols for PRP and PRF preparation.

Learning Focus:
To enable learners to perform venepuncture competently and safely for autologous aesthetic treatments.

Module 6 – Consultation, Contraindications & Contra-actions

This module addresses consultation, informed consent, and client suitability. Contraindications such as poor veins, infection, oedema, and vascular conditions are identified. Contra-actions including haematoma, fainting, nerve contact, and arterial puncture are explained with management guidance.

Learning Focus:
To ensure appropriate client selection and effective management of adverse events.

Module 7 – Legal, Ethical & Regulatory Framework

This module outlines relevant UK legislation including:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act (1974),
  • PPE at Work Regulations 2022,
  • RIDDOR 2013,
  • Data Protection Act 2018,
  • Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.

Learners will understand legal responsibilities, documentation requirements, and accountability within aesthetic practice.

Learning Focus:
To ensure compliance with UK legal and regulatory standards.

Assessment & Certification

Theoretical knowledge is assessed through interactive discussion, Q&A, and continuous observation during the session. Practical skills are assessed through a competency-based practical evaluation, requiring participants to demonstrate correct preparation, vein selection, aseptic practice, needle insertion technique, tube handling, and sharps disposal.

Separate Assessments for Theory and Practical Components

  • Theory Assessment: Ongoing formative assessment throughout the session to confirm understanding of anatomy, infection control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Practical Assessment: A structured “Practical Competency Checklist” is used to evaluate venepuncture technique, communication, safety awareness, sample management, and adherence to aseptic standards. All criteria must be met to receive certification.

Who Can Attend

  • Doctors, dentists, nurses and other regulated healthcare professionals
  • Non-medical practitioners with prior experience in PRP, phlebotomy, or injectable aesthetic procedures (subject to suitability assessment)

All participants must demonstrate competence in basic aseptic technique and comply with local clinical governance requirements.

Training Format

  • Small group masterclass (max. 4-6 participants)
  • Combination of lecture-based learning and practical hands-on training
  • CPD accredited activity
  • Delivered at selected UK locations or as a dedicated in-clinic session
